Not much going on in the Tropical Atlantic right now and by the looks of things that trend will likely continue for at least another week. The next potential for some Tropical activity I can see is around October 10th or so in the Southern Caribbean, and that is far from a sure thing. That being the case I figured maybe a quick poll on how many Hurricanes you have weathered would be interesting and a possible source of discussion…

For me the Hurricanes were: Earl (1998) along with Katrina & Wilma (2005), but I have seen many Tropical Storms as well in the nearly 14 years I have lived in the Florida panhandle and Southwest Florida.

With about 35% of the season remaining we are far from being in the clear just yet, on the other hand it does look like things are starting to wind down in the Cape Verde ‘breeding grounds’… The NHC is looking at the area of weather over the Islands right now, giving it a slim chance to develop but I have my doubts that anything is going to happen with the wave. Even if it would every indication is the system would recurve long before reaching land. The Long Range GFS never locks in on a tropical system either, in fact it shows nothing sustained over the next 10 days. This area does bear watching though, and a slim chance that something might get going in the GOM/BOC does exist, so that is another area to watch. I really do not expect anything to happen over the weekend at least, so unless something sneaks up on us I will make another post sometime next week… Until then take care and stay safe.
